Important result for 1st XI.
All three teams were at home on Saturday on what was a shocking day for sport with high winds and spells of horizontal rain.
The 1st XI had a very important and well-deserved win against Lisnagarvey - but they did it the hard way! Queen's started well and had had a couple of good chances before a defensive mistake allowed the visitors to take the lead against the run of play. From then on it was one way traffic with the final corner count of 14 to 1 to QUB a good indication of their dominance; however, chances came and went and Caroline Reid (a former QUB player!) in the Garvey goal made a number of excellent saves. The breakthrough finally came with only four minutes remaining when a good move down the right allowed Louise McGuigan (pictured right) to score at the back post. In the last minute Queen's won a final penalty corner and when Hannah McMillan's goalbound shot was kept out by a defender's foot, Claire Buchanan stepped up to slot away the resultant penalty stroke.
The 2nd XI are beginning to re-assemble their strongest available squad again as exams draw to a close, but they were very slow to get going against Pegasus 3rd XI in the Qualifying Plate and, despite a good finish to the game, they lost 2-0.
The 3rd XI continued their excellent run in Junior League 8 with a home win 5-0 against Cooke 2nd XI. The goals came from Vicki Greer (2), Tori Moss (2) and Louise Allen - they retain their 100% record and top Junior League 8.
