Indoor Hockey

QUB hosts major indoor hockey tournament.
On the weekend of 17/18 December 2011, Queen’s hosted the Ulster Regional qualifier for the Irish Indoor Hockey Championship. Indoor hockey is enjoying something of a revival at present and this was the first women’s indoor hockey tournament played in Ulster for many years. Queen’s Sport hosted the event on behalf of Ulster Hockey and Karl Oakes and his team were rewarded for all their hard work with an excellent tournament which was enjoyed by the players and promoted the PEC as an excellent venue for indoor hockey and one which is likely to host many more tournaments in the future. The photograph (right) shows QUB player Julie Allison in action against current Irish champions Armagh. For most of the Queen’s girls it was their first experience of indoor hockey but we hope to be able to play much more in the future as the game develops in Ulster.
